Hyundai E&C announced on Friday, November 21st, that it has achieved the highest grade in the ‘Local Community Contribution Recognition System,’ co-hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare, for three consecutive years (2023-2025).
The Local Community Contribution Recognition System is a program that officially recognizes companies and public institutions that have consistently contributed to the community based on partnerships with non-profit organizations. It comprehensively evaluates ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management practices and social contributions.
Hyundai E&C was highly evaluated for its contributions to local community development through a diverse range of social contribution programs, achieving a grade of ‘S,’ the highest among five grades, for three consecutive years. This is the result of focusing on support for the vulnerable, disaster safety education and training, and ecosystem protection activities by undertaking ‘community-oriented CSR activities linked to major worksites.
Notably, this year, the company expanded its site-proposal-based support projects reflecting local demands and characteristics centered on worksites in Korea, continuing its community-oriented social contribution activities. The Hillstate Hwanho Park (in Pohang, Gyeongbuk) site took part in activities to improve the residential environment by combining employee volunteering with the renovation of old facilities at a nearby senior center. The site for the new corporate headquarters of Sungwon Adpia (Hanam, Gyeonggi-do) established a social contribution model aimed at solving local problems by improving the residential environment of vulnerable groups through public-private cooperation with Hanam City. Three sites in Daejeon and Seosan, Chungnam, including Hillstate Yucheon The Wise, offered assistance to 500 elderly people living alone in the region with daily necessities during periods of extreme heat and cold, bolstering its significance by linking these efforts with on-site employee volunteer activities.
Hyundai E&C's representative social contribution program, the ‘Disaster Safety Hard Hat Distribution and Education Project,’ is also steadily expanding. This year, four sites in Ulsan and Uljin, Gyeongbuk, including the Shaheen Ethylene Facility and Shin-Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 & 4 construction sites participated. They distributed disaster safety helmets, provided safety training, and conducted hands-on disaster evacuation drills for elementary school students in earthquake-vulnerable regions. From 2019 through 2025, the company has distributed 17,175 safety helmets and 5,900 emergency safety bags to 44 elementary schools nationwide and provided disaster response education to approximately 19,000 students.
‘H-Nature Garden’ is a biodiversity conservation CSR activity through which Hyundai E&C plants gardens replete with specialty and native plants in Hillstate apartment complexes and public lands with its landscaping technology. Following the landscaping of gardens at Hillstate complexes in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, and Wonju, Gangwon-do, and at the Nature Environment Research Park in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, since 2023, this year the company established an H-Nature Garden at Hillstate Geumo The First (Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do), planting 2,550 plants of 14 specialty and native species. To date, a total of 6,980 specialty and native plants have been planted in gardens covering a total area of 2,146 m² across four locations, demonstrating Hyundai E&C’s commitment to ecosystem protection and biodiversity conservation within urban landscapes.
A Hyundai E&C official commented, “We will further expand customized social contribution activities linking both sites at home and abroad with their surrounding local communities.” The official added, “We will continue to serve as a ‘partner for a better future’ by promoting mutual prosperity with the underprivileged and local communities.”
