Hyundai E&C has expanded its foundation for entry into new energy businesses by forming a collaborative network with Singapore's largest public project technical consulting firm.
On the 8th (local time), Hyundai E&C signed an MOU with Surbana Jurong at the “Korea-Singapore MOU Signing Ceremony” held at the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Hotel in Singapore. The MOU aims to promote joint research and technology exchanges in next-generation power generation projects, renewable energy, and carbon reduction initiatives. Surbana Jurong is the largest public project consulting firm in Singapore, providing technical advisory services for national projects, including global urban infrastructure and management services.
The MOU signing ceremony was attended by Yoon Young-joon, President of Hyundai E&C, Sean Chiao, CEO of Surbana Jurong, and key executives from both companies. The event followed the Korea-Singapore Business Forum and included the presence of Minister Ahn Duk-geun of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy of Korea, and Tan See Leng, Singapore's Second Minister for Trade and Industry, who discussed government-level cooperation for Singapore’s energy transition.
Thanks to the latest MOU, Hyundai E&C and Surbana Jurong plan to collaborate in areas such as △next-generation power projects, △ hydrogen, solar, wind, and other renewable energies, △ CCS (carbon capture and storage), and △construction automation and robotics. By jointly undertaking research projects commissioned by the Singapore government, they aim to maximize performance, enhance their respective capabilities, and improve competitiveness in Singapore’s national projects.
At the same event, Hyundai E&C also signed an MOU with Hyundai Motor and NTU to collaborate on joint technical research and demonstration projects in the fields of circular hydrogen and next-generation power projects. In 2016, Hyundai E&C established a joint research center with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and has since been conducting research and development on projects such as recycling of contaminated dredged soil, desalination, and floating offshore platforms. Through this new agreement, Hyundai E&C plans to further strengthen the industry-academia collaboration and establish a solid foundation at the group level for entering Singapore’s new energy innovation businesses.
Singapore is focusing on securing low-carbon energy and establishing a hydrogen energy base aligned with its goal to achieve Net Zero by 2050. In response, Hyundai E&C is preparing to rapidly respond to the diversification of Singapore’s energy transition projects through this MOU, expanding local business opportunities while actively identifying and implementing new growth projects.
A Hyundai E&C official stated, "Since entering the Singapore construction market in 1981, Hyundai E&C has actively participated in infrastructure projects, expanding Singapore’s land area by approximately 7% and constructing landmarks such as Changi International Airport, Marina One, South Beach, and Southeast Asia's largest underground substation. The company is currently undertaking a total of 10 projects (2.3 billion USD), contributing to Singapore's economic growth. Through this business partnership, we will leverage our strengthened government and group-level collaboration network, along with the trust we have built with the Singapore government and clients over the years, to do our utmost in accelerating Singapore’s energy transition.”
