Hyundai E&C announced that its employees are actively engaging in social contribution activities to mark the year-end holiday season, making donations to the Caring & Sharing Fund and extending a helping hand to marginalized neighbors in the community.
Hyundai E&C donated approximately KRW 224 million, raised through the collective generosity of its employees this year. The donation ceremony, held on Thursday, December 11 at the Community Chest of Korea in Jung-gu, Seoul, was attended by five representatives from the Hyundai E&C Caring & Sharing Fund Donation Employee Council and Hwang In-sik, Executive Director of the Community Chest of Korea.
The Caring & Sharing Fund is a signature charitable program at Hyundai E&C, where employees have voluntarily donated a portion of their monthly salaries since 2010. Over the past 16 years, the fund has accumulated approximately KRW 4.56 billion, all of which has been channeled into support projects for underserved communities. The beneficiaries are selected through discussions by the employee representative council, with funds directed toward regions near the company’s domestic and overseas construction sites, primarily in the form of scholarship programs for low-income children and adolescents, as well as daily necessities for elderly individuals living alone.
Beyond financial contributions, Hyundai E&C employees also lent a helping hand to the community. On Friday, December 5, the company held a seasonal kimchi sharing volunteer event in partnership with the Jongno Community Welfare Center. Approximately 70 employees, including new hires, come together to prepare 1,600 kg of kimchi, which was subsequently distributed to 160 vulnerable households in the Jongno District.
Throughout the year, Hyundai E&C has carried out a comprehensive, company-wide CSR strategy focusing on ▲ mutual prosperity in tandem with the community, ▲ skills-based volunteering, and ▲ environmental protection. A total of 3,047 employees from the company’s headquarters and construction sites nationwide participated, logging a combined 11,846 hours of CSR activities.
The company maintains ongoing affective engagement with the local community by inviting low-income seniors in the Jongno District—where Hyundai E&C’s headquarters is located—for meals and gives out gifts during major holidays and on Parents' Day. This year, the company focused on expanding its site-proposed support projects, reflecting local needs and characteristics to deliver community-embedded social contributions. Notably, the team at the HILLSTATE HWANHO PARK site in Pohang combined senior center facility renovation with employee volunteering to improve residential environments nearby. At the site for the new corporate headquarters of Sungwon Adpia in Hanam, the team established a problem-solving social contribution model by improving housing for vulnerable groups through public-private cooperation with Hanam City. Meanwhile, three sites in the Chungcheong region—including HILLSTATE YUCHEON THE WISE in Daejeon and sites in Seosan—provided essential summer and winter supplies to 500 elderly residents living alone, further amplifying the impact of the company’s contributions through direct employee volunteering.
In recognition of these sustained efforts, Hyundai E&C achieved a grade of "S”—the highest rating—for three consecutive years in the Community Contribution Recognition System organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare. In addition, the company was honored with the Minister of Health and Welfare Award in the social contribution category, acknowledging its contribution to local community development through diverse programs linked to its domestic and international sites.
Leveraging their professional expertise and experience, Hyundai E&C employees also continue to engage in skills-based mentoring to support the growth of college students and adolescents. The "HILLSTATE Dream Mentoring Corps," which has been active continuously since it was founded 11 years ago in 2014, features a unique team structure comprising employees, college students, and adolescents. These teams engage in activities related to career exploration, academic guidance, and emotional support over an eight-month period. This year, 16 employee mentors and 16 college student mentors were paired with 16 adolescent mentees, providing a total of 960 hours of academic mentoring and 512 hours of career path exploration.
Hyundai E&C has also strengthened its social contribution activities through environmental protection. Through the newly launched "Volunteer Toy Upcycling Initiative" employees donated unused toys from home, which were then repaired, disassembled, and sanitized before being delivered to local children's centers. Additionally, in the "Tancheon Stream Environmental Cleanup," employees and their families worked together to produce Effective Micro-organism (EM) mud balls to purify the stream, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity.
"The voluntary participation of our employees is the greatest driving force behind Hyundai E&C’s social contribution initiatives," said a spokesperson for Hyundai E&C. "We remain committed to growing alongside our communities, providing practical assistance to more neighbors in need, and faithfully fulfilling our corporate social responsibilities."
