Hyundai E&C is taking an active step in developing the “All Life-care House”, a futuristic residential model that provides ultra-personalized services intending to extend the healthy lifespan of its residents. To this end, the company has teamed up with a global leader in the areas of biotechnology and genetic testing.
On Wednesday, at the company's head office in Gyedong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Hyundai E&C signed a tripartite strategic MOU with Thermo Fisher Scientific (Thermo Fisher), the world's No. 1 biotechnology company, and Macrogen, Korea's leading genetic analysis and testing service provider, to develop future health homes based on genetic analysis.
The signing ceremony was attended by key executives from each company, including Hyundai E&C President Yoon Young-joon, Thermo Fisher Director Product Marketing of Genotyping Shantanu Kaushikkar Shantanu Kaushikkar, and Macrogen Chairman Seo Jeong-sun.
As the first in the industry, Hyundai E&C will present a new concept of residential culture through technological convergence with companies leading the fields of biotechnology and precision medicine. Through this agreement, the three parties will continue to work closely together to identify and apply Hyundai E&C's life care services linked to genetic analysis, such as ▲ developing healthcare services exclusively for Hyundai E&C apartment buildings, ▲ providing genetic testing equipment and specialized solutions, ▲ organizing specialized items for genetic testing services,▲ and jointly developing future health-related residential models.
Thermo Fisher is a global top-tier biotechnology company providing genetic analysis instruments and solutions, laboratory and analytical instruments, biopharmaceuticals, and diagnostic solutions. The company holds the world's largest market share in laboratory, analytical, and diagnostic instruments. With more than 100,000 employees worldwide, Thermo Fisher generates annual revenue of more than $40 billion ( 53 trillion KRW) and contributes to the early detection of diseases and advancement of precision medicine with world-class technology that provides solutions across the entire genetic spectrum.
Macrogen is a global digital healthcare company with the largest share of genomic analysis in Korea, offering 73 genetic testing services, the most in the country. In December, it became the first company in Korea to be officially certified as a “DTC* genetic testing agency” by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and is leading the way in enhancing the value of utilizing genomic data by focusing on developing healthcare services that take into account individual genetic profiles.
*DTC (Direct To Customer): A service that allows consumers to receive genetic tests by directly referring to a genetic testing company without going through a medical institution (hospital).
Starting with this agreement, Hyundai E&C will actively promote the development of an 'All Life-care House' model that actively manages not only the individual health of residents but also their entire lives in residential spaces. Based on accurate data derived from genetic analysis, the company plans to discover and apply solutions in the three areas of “Health Living-Wellness-Medical”.
As a result, residents of Hyundai E&C apartment houses will be able to receive customized care services that combine leading domestic and international healthcare technologies, including individual diet and exercise management, sleep, and beauty services, and medical services such as emergency response in partnership with hospitals in the event of an emergency.
“As the concept of housing and the needs of consumers continue to change with the times, Hyundai E&C has evolved the definition of housing from ‘a place to live’ to ‘a comfortable living space’ to ‘a place that enhances the value of life’,” said Yoon Young-joon, President of Hyundai E&C. “Residential spaces, which have undergone physical transformation, will be reborn as active agents that provide all-round care for residents’ healthy lives through a software-centered transformation, and we expect this MOU to be the first step in that transformation.”
